Barbara Carr "Down Low Brother" Album Review

Great soul/blues singer
Barbara Carr, in the southern soul tradition of Denise Lasalle, gives her tough, no nonsense approach to love. In the song, "Down low brother", she tells the tale of her bisexual man, a new take on the classic cheating song that is cropping up all over the place, esp. since Peggy Scott Adams's song, "Bill". She even has a line about "brokeback", that cracked me up. She has a strong bluesy voice that commands authority. She lets her hair down on " Y'all know how to party", with an upbeat groove. When she sings "Freedom" from a no good man, you can feel the liberation in her voice. She means business in "You've got to write the wrong". Some great songs, great hooks, and all sung to soulful perfection by one of the true divas of southern soul.
